An intellectual slant toward the scenario concerning the Bosnian War. Heads of state signing Peace Treaties with one hand and pulling the trigger with the other, metaphorically speaking.
Central to painting is a Mouth, closed, non-communicative, from it
exude spoons carrying eggs. Like the war in Bosnia, fragile,
vulnerable, the state of peace ephemeral.
Nationalism may well be the catalyst to the horror and resurgence of ethnic cleansing, a step retroactive to the early 12th century crusades, Christian against Moslems.
Who will be made responsible and brought to account for the regressive indoctrination of a people so influenced to turn on their neighbours with such anger, ferocity and violence, moral and reason out of control ?
Above the mouth there is a roof like structure, this represents the head, the establishment, government and the indoctrinators of the funereal situation, it is an empty shell devoid of a rational functioning Brain.
The two "Pen" like structures emanating from the head (eyes) represent and signify the signing of worthless International Agreements and Non-Aggression pacts between the warring factions. The emaciated "Camel" reflects the controlled incarceration, starvation and eventual heinous demise of mainly Moslem prisoners, the innocents and the unfortunate.
There are overtones in this war with previous wars, the use of concentration camps, genocide, ethnic cleansing, scorched earth policy and so on.
Rose with man's head embedded within portrays the two faces of the head of state of Serbia, on the one hand a shining light fronted as a saviour, defender of the good (his own people) but in the cold light of day, in reality an inciter of nationalism, hatred and suppression, and a resurgence of religious intolerance. Human rights and beliefs have been eroded, bereft of respect, laid waste, dehumanised.
The perpetrators, the head of state must be put on trial for crimes against humanity, but as usual politics will be their sanctuary, the Western Nations unless pushed will let the matter fade away.
The "Hand" with extended fingers and fingernails, the thumb leading to the Rose, relates to the preceding events and the part the West had to play in not diverting the crisis, sitting on the fence fuelled this horror.
Two "Hands" in a pose of prayer, one Christian the other Moslem both co-existing side by side until parted by war, racism and ethnic violence and intolerance.
Incitement to violence is a crime against humanity. Violence achieves only destruction, a degradation of the whole, based on a prejudicial view of a tiny sub-set of properties. Using the ignorance of the masses as a way to achieve personal ends is deplorable, a betrayal of the values that raise humans above mere animal behaviour.
Those who transgress these values (negative sum co-operation) detract from the worth of all peoples of the Earth, and must be made accountable for all the global effects of their actions on their victims.
